Our mid week first grade game against Vikings at Riverside resulted in a 7 runs to 1 loss. A tough game with Vikings busting open the game in the fourth innings with 4 runs after earlier plating two runs in the first innings, sadly from a hit that blooped over second base. We had a total of five hits in the game, but even though we got runners on bases often, we just couldn't convert them to score.
Gavin Fingelson had two hits in the game and the others were shared around with Nick Gates slamming one down to left field to score our lone run for the night. We need to be more consistent with our hitting especially when we have runners in scoring positions.
Darcy Edwards pitched our innings, starting slowly but building up to strike out a total of four hitters.
Unfortunately that means we slip down to fifth position in a very close competition where a loss can mean losing your position quickly. We need to now step up in the return game against Vikings on Saturday night at Riverside again and gain some momentum going into the Christmas break.
Ryde is the next home game at Tom Evans on Wed 16th, then Sat 19th at Phil Austin.
