Last night Ryde hosted Cronulla at ELS Hall. Turned out to be a good day for the Cronulla sides with a loss only to the third grade side who were overhauled late to go down in a close one.
1st Grade. - had a good win 12-7 over the Ryde side. Took an early lead with Ryde eventually drawing level in the seventh inning 7 all. The Cronulla bats emerged again in the top of the ninth with some good hits to the outfield by our young subs with a triple to Jacob D which assisted in getting a roll on with 5 runs being scored. A good hit from Blake C, who had some very good hits on the night meant Ryde had to again come from behind to try and win the game in the bottom of the last innings. Lachlan R closed it out though for a good Cronulla win.
2nd Grade - Won 9 -3. Solid consistent batting throughout the game meant Ryde was always chasing a win. Solid pitching , good ground fielding and outfield catching prevented runners from scoring and overall a good performance and one which shows we can be competitive as long as we continue this form.
3rd Grade - Unfortunately got over hauled late in the game after holding a close 2 runs to 1 lead for a big part of the game with Ryde gaining momentum late to run away with a 7 runs to 2 win. The commitment is there but a few lapses in concentration meant Ryde scored vital runs to get the win
Under 18 - nerve wracking but what a win. After falling behind for most of the game they were able to plate sufficient runs late to get in front and then hold on for a vital win 9 runs to 8. Highlighted by a hit by Jake Quinlevan with an in the park home run clearing all bases for a grand slam scoring 4 runs. Well done guys after suffering a close loss last week.
